Got here while trolling the net for good fiction, a common pastime for me when I don't feel like working. When you're self-employed as a publisher, you can almost convince yourself that such activity is really a search for potential new writing talent. But that's probably closer to lucid dreaming than to reality, if indeed this place we all inhabit is reality rather than a dream. I'm starting to sound like a character in one of Scheherazade's stories as she toiled to save her life in a fashion much like Casey and Lauren...
Anyway, congratulations on a fine story, even if I am over 6 months late in finding it. If you are interested in publishing this, probably in conjunction with other stories set in the same world, let me know. I might be interested.
You should be able to contact me if you google my company and look over my web site. I rather enjoy kicking off the negotiation in public like this.

I notice this story doesn't have any comments, and dammit it deserves some. This is an excellent bit of work, a wonderful collision between the strange and the familiar, with tragically recognizable characters. I look forward to reading more of your stuff.

I thought this was excellent. A picture-perfect thought experiment, but affecting too.
