‘Stealth’ is becoming a popular word again, particularly in the military-tech world. Latest out of the R&D box is a radar system that can see through almost anything, yet that is virtually impossible to detect in action, thanks to some fancy shenanigans with bandwidths and so on. It will also be far better than conventional radar systems at spotting things that are either small or very nearby.

This idea isn’t new and a device made by Time Domain of Huntsville Alabama has been available for a couple of years now.
A better purpose for the UWB technology would be for advanced wireless communications. Instead of having to have numerous cell transmitters a single transmitter could service an entire metropolitan area.
In fact early investors in Time Domain had this very intention and were backed by Michael Powell, then of the FCC to deploy the technology for this purpose on an experimental basis.
Congress intervened at the behest of the medical equipment lobby, who were acting for the RBOCs and other wireless concerns in a quid pro quo arrangement, and argued that the technology would be a hazard to medical monitoring equipment.
Thus another potential industry changing technology dies a death at the hands of politicians and regulators.
