The protagonist is Lyle Schweik, a bicycle repairman who lives in the "zone," a no-man's-land in the burnt-out upper levels of a cavernous Chattanooga high-rise. Replace "burnt-out upper levels of a cavernous Chattanooga high-rise." with "Detroit".
