My day job is as a web developer for an online art company. In our case we act as agents for artists in countries that would otherwise not have a direct market to the English speaking world. In the process of becoming the single middleman between the artist and the consumer we end up bypassing many of the traditional importers, exporters, wholesalers, etc. I bring this up mainly to answer that YES stable middlemen can be created by the internet, even if the NET number of middlemen may decrease. We've been successful at this since 1999. Your results may vary.

In a society that provided for everyone as a starting point, this wouldn't be an issue. Then folks would simply work according to their calling and allow anyone interested to benefit. Such a system offers outstanding advantages over the present one.
