Remember those semi-medieval looking metal plates the shoe geek at Sears used to pick the right size shoes? The future of shoe sizing has six 3-D cameras to map every plantar’s wart and bone spur, and to store the data for posterity.

This gadget is misguided on so many levels. Modern man has wheeled vehicles; Shoes are obselete. After measuring your feet you still pull a ready made shoe out of a limited stock in the shop. What value is the gadget supposed to deliver? An estimate of how much the shoe will pinch?
Suppose you part with serious money for a made to measure shoe. You still face the mechanical fight of shoe-horning an exoskeleton onto a body part with an endoskeleleton. The way the shoes bends will never match the motions of the foots internal joints.
Going barefoot works very well in conjunction with cars. It is nice to have an unobstructed feel of the pedals.
Who will pay serious money for shoes that still rub?
