Atop a volcano in Mexico’s Sierra Negra, the biggest telescope of its kind nears completion. A joint project between the US and Mexico, the Pentagon funding has caused a few raised eyebrows, but scientists are keen to point out that the device will have no military uses.

Private Spacefleet Announced
US company Space Adventures has announced its intent to build a spaceport and a fleet of suborbital spaceships ‘for commercial purposes’ (ie space tourism). These projects include collaboration with Prodea (Texan investment company founded by the family that brought you the X-Prize) and the Russian Federal Space Agency.
