An article at Nature.com caused a stir, citing research by Italian researcher Nicola Pugno as proof the space elevator is an un-buildable concept, at least with current technologies. The pro-elevator lobby have come out in force to react to and refute the study; Ted Semon’s Space Elevator Blog rounds up the responses.

A storm? Minor spring shower, at best. Mostly rehashing old arguments.
I’m not saying they’re wrong per se or don’t have valid concernes but everyone seems to see Pugno’s paper as proof that their already formed opinion is right, or reinforcing an already held cherished belief.
Myself I’m not immune from this either. All I know is the topic needs more study. Of which this is one.
Heck, our own Tom Nugent wrote a paper and dashed off a post on our Forum on this paper. In January.
