Futurismic closed to fiction submissions until January 2nd!

Hi folks – just a quick note to let you know that Futurismic is closing down its fiction submissions form for the month of December. This will not only give hard-workin’ Chris East, our relentless Fiction Editor, a chance to catch up with the slush pile, but hopefully give the poor guy enough time to leave his desk and actually see his family and friends over the festive season – I reckon he’s earned it!

We’ll re-open to submissions on January 2nd; in the meantime, everything will continue pretty much as usual. Look out for the latest piece of fiction later today!

[Apex Online is doing a December shut-down, too – great minds think alike, I guess. 😉 ]

Futurismic re-opens to fiction submissions

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m pleased to announce that hard-workin’ Chris East, Futurismic‘s fearless Fiction Editor, has got himself all caught up with the slush pile, and is hungry for you to send him more…

Yup – the fiction submissions webform is back in action. So scroll down through the guidelines, giving them one last read-through while you’re at it, and then click through to send us your masterpiece. We look forward to seeing what you’re made of!

Futurismic and FeedBooks – making quality science fiction more portable

If you check out Futurismic‘s Friday Free Fiction posts, you’ll have noticed that we link regularly to FeedBooks, a site that aims to supply free-to-read ebooks in convenient portable formats. FeedBooks themselves have noticed, and we’ve been working with them to make Futurismic‘s fiction more accessible.

All stories published here at Futurismic are released under a Creative Commons license, so anyone can republish them provided they credit the authors and make no profit in the process. FeedBooks make stories more useful to the reader on the move by making them available in portable device-friendly formats like ePub, MobiPocket and iLiad, as well as printable PDFs.

So, if you keep an eye on the special Futurismic list at FeedBooks, you’ll see our back catalogue of fiction cropping up as time goes by. New stories will remain exclusive to Futurismic for the first three months, after which you’ll be able to pick them up in whatever format suits you best. The following titles are already available, with more to come in the future:

The FeedBooks team seem genuinely interested in getting good fiction into the hands of readers, and I recommend getting in touch with them if your webzine operates a similar model to Futurismic – it’s a great way to give your authors greater exposure.

Fiction submissions closed temporarily

Well, it looks like the migration is complete, though the RSS feed seems to be lagging a bit – I expect it’ll all settle down soon. I’m hoping you’ll notice greater reliability and uptime from Futurismic at its new home!

So, the regular contact form is active again for your tips and enquiries. However, we’re keeping the fiction submissions page closed for a week or two to let hard-workin’ fiction editor Chris East trawl his way through the slush pile and get himself caught up.

So, if you were about to send something in, you’ve got time for a final rewrite – run through the guidelines one last time, why not?

Finally, if you notice anything broken on the site, please drop us a line and let us know. Otherwise, it looks like we’re back in business!

Possible downtime and weirdness ahead

Greetings, Futurismic readers! Just a quick heads-up – we’re in the process of migrating hosts again, which means that DNS changes are a-propagating as we speak.

Hosting being the brick-wall nightmare that it is, there’s more than a chance that things may go slightly awry, and Futurismic may seem to disappear or break in the process; rest assured we’ll be working hard to make sure there’s minimal disruption, but if you see some weird result when you try to visit, you’ll know what has happened.

With this in mind, THE CONTACT AND FICTION SUBMISSION FORMS HAVE BEEN DEACTIVATED so we don’t lose any important emails. We’ll switch ’em back on as soon as we’re able to.

Thanks for your patience – we’ll be back soon!
